To give everyone an update, Terry and I have decided that we will be having our little Sweet Pea at Home... This has been a difficult decision to make, but we feel at peace with our choice.
With Socialized Medicine/Hospitals, you really don't have the opportunity to get to know who will be working with you to deliver your baby... or to see the same person twice for that matter! I also find the Hospitals to be quite dingy and antiquated, not to mention EXTREMELY overcrowded. The reason that we decided to have a Home Birth is that you get seen for weekly check up appointments by a Midwife in the comfort of your home, not waiting in the Hospital for 2+hours, to be pushed out of the way after your 10min time slot is up with the Consultant. The Midwife who attends to you will 90% be the person who will deliver your baby and due to liability issues, you will also have the support of a second Midwife. If we were in Hospital and breaks or shifts came up, doesn't matter how close you are to having the baby, the Midwife working with you would leave and another would come to take over. We felt it was all a bit impersonal. Our Midwife is named Eva and we both feel really comfortable working with her... and I look forward to our next appointment/visit together.
We are pursuing a Natural Birth using Active Birthing Methods along with the support of a Birthing Pool and the philosophy of Hypnobirthing supported with meditation sessions with a Doula. Yes, I know, it all seems a bit far out there, but the more research we've done, the more it makes sense... I wouldn't be pregnant, if my body wasn't capable of having the baby... I just need to trust and have confidence in my body and to take fear out of the equation.
I never thought I/we would go down this route, but it just seems to make sense....
